Agreement to Terms

By downloading, installing, or using HAN•GL ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the App.

Description of Service

HAN•GL is an educational mobile application designed to teach users the Korean language, including the Korean alphabet (Hangul) and vocabulary. The App provides lessons, exercises, quizzes, and audio content for language learning purposes.

License to Use

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial educational purposes. You may not:

Copy, modify, or distribute the App or its content
Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
Use the App's content to create derivative works
Remove or alter any proprietary notices or labels
Use the App for any commercial purpose without written permission

Accounts

HAN•GL works anonymously by default — no account is required. You may optionally link your progress to an Apple or Google account so it follows you to a new device. Linking is entirely your choice and can be done at any time from the in-app menu.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of the Apple or Google account you link to HAN•GL. You may sign out or delete your account at any time from the in-app menu (Menu → Login / Signup → Delete account). Deleting your account permanently removes your progress from our servers. Your subscription, if any, is managed by Apple or Google and is not affected by account deletion — you must cancel it separately through your App Store or Play Store account if desired.

Subscriptions and Purchases

HAN•GL offers both free and premium content. Some features require a paid subscription or one-time purchase.

Billing:

All payments are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store
Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled
You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your device's app store settings
Prices may vary by region and are displayed in your local currency at the time of purchase

Cancellation and refunds:

You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain access until then
Refunds are handled by Apple or Google according to their respective refund policies
We do not process payments or refunds directly

EU right of withdrawal:

Under EU consumer law, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal for digital purchases. However, by accessing premium digital content immediately upon purchase, you acknowledge that the withdrawal right is waived once the content has been accessed, in accordance with Art. 16(m) of the EU Consumer Rights Directive. If you have not accessed the premium content, you may exercise your withdrawal right by contacting Apple or Google, or by reaching out to us at hello@hangl.app.

Intellectual Property

All content within the App, including but not limited to text, graphics, illustrations, audio, animations, and software, is the property of Kevin Myung (operating as HAN•GL) and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

User Conduct

You agree to use the App only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to use the App in any way that could damage, disable, or impair the App.

Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services:

Google Firebase — Authentication (anonymous IDs and optional Apple/Google sign-in), Cloud Firestore (syncs your learning progress so it survives reinstalls), Cloud Functions (runs account-merge and account-delete operations), Analytics, and Crashlytics
Apple Sign-In / Google Sign-In — Optional account linking. Provides an email address and a unique identifier if you choose to back up your progress to an account
RevenueCat — Subscription and purchase management. Processes transaction data to verify and manage your purchases
Apple App Store / Google Play Store — Payment processing and app distribution

Educational Content Disclaimer

The App is designed to teach the fundamentals of the Korean language. While we strive for accuracy, we make no guarantees about learning outcomes. The App is a supplementary educational tool and should not be considered a substitute for formal language instruction.

Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Kevin Myung (operating as HAN•GL) shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the App.

Changes to the App

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the App at any time without notice. We shall not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the App.

Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. We encourage you to review these Terms periodically.

Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. If you are a consumer residing in the EU, you also retain the protection of any mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Berlin, Germany, without prejudice to your right as an EU consumer to bring proceedings in your country of residence.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
