In 1446 almost nobody in Korea could read. Sejong handed the country an alphabet built so that anyone could learn it. Once you know what he was trying to do, the letters stick.

FAQ
Is HAN•GL free?
The complete Hangul course, all 15 chapters, costs $0. By the end you can read any word in Korean. Basic vocabulary is free too. No ads.
Do I need to know any Korean to start?
No. The first chapter assumes you have never seen a Korean letter, and nothing before it asks you to.
How long does it take to learn Hangul?
Most people finish all 15 chapters in under a week. The median is about four days, and roughly a quarter get through it in a single day.
Is there romanization?
HAN•GL teaches you to read real Hangul rather than depend on romanization. It appears as a support while you learn, and you can turn it off for vocabulary cards in Settings.
What's in the app besides the alphabet?
Vocabulary topics you take in any order, where every word you learn becomes a card with its own audio. Quizzes, tests and boss battles. Seven arcade games played over the words you already know. And Volume 2, which carries the story on into the numbers, the hanja roots and typing in Korean.
Does HAN•GL teach grammar?
Not yet. Today it teaches the alphabet, vocabulary, and full example sentences that come apart piece by piece so you can see how they were built. A grammar module is in design.
Is it good if I'm here because of K-pop?
Yes. Reading the alphabet is what turns titles, lyrics and names from shapes into words, and there are vocabulary topics built around exactly that.
Why isn't the app in my language?
Today it is in English and Spanish. Adding a language means rebuilding the course around how its speakers actually hear Korean, not running the English one through a translator, so each one takes real time. More will follow.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Every lesson, image and audio file is installed with the app, so nothing streams and nothing downloads later. A connection is only needed the first time you open it, and for signing in or subscribing.
Will my progress follow me to a new phone?
If you sign in with Apple or Google, yes. Your progress is saved to that account and comes back when you sign in on the new phone. Without an account it stays on the phone you learned it on, so it is worth signing in early.
Do I need Premium?
Learning to read Hangul is an achievement, but it is only the beginning. Premium is for learning the language itself. HAN•GL learns how you learn: every review adapts to you, so words stick faster. It opens Volume 2 of the story, every vocabulary topic, the rest of the games, and everything added after that. Made for serious learners only.
How much does Premium cost?

What if I cancel?
Cancel anytime from your store account. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends and you are not charged. Either way, every word you collected stays yours, and the whole Hangul course stays free.
